Yom Teruah (The Feast of Trumpets - Rosh Hashana)

A short summary

This Feast takes place on the first day of the seventh month of Tishrei. It is a holy day that is celebrated with trumpet (Shofar) blast. The blowing of the trumpet was associated with the calling of a solemn assembly. Some people believe that two important events begin with the blowing of the trumpets, as described in the New Testament: a. the rapture of the Church (1 Thes 4:16-18) b. and the second coming of the Lord (Matt 24:31). Rosh Hashana is a very solemn time since it precedes the day of Yom Kippur (also called the "Day of Atonement"). The 10 days from Rosh Hashana through the great day of Yom Kippur are known as the "Days of Awe". During this time one humbles oneself before the Lord, seeks His forgiveness and sets oneself apart unto Him alone.
